AYSO EXTRA PROGRAM

Section 11 EXTRA Program

2026 Fall Season

AYSO EXTRA

EXTRA is a try-out based, internal gaming-circuit program that offers players a higher-level opportunity to refine their skills in a more competitive playing environment. Although players are more advanced, the EXTRA program follows the same core values as the other programs and embraces AYSO's six philosophies.

What is AYSO EXTRA?
For those who want to play harder and still be a part of AYSO, EXTRA is perfect! This program gives AYSO athletes a more progressive soccer experience. With the right balance of competition and inclusion, you can feel secure knowing your child is part of a trusted organization and will be given fair playing time.

How are AYSO EXTRA games organized?
Your Region determines the organization of EXTRA play to suit its needs and numbers, but AYSO’s core philosophies are still in place.: selection to teams is based on open and fair evaluations, and the teams are chosen to create a competitive balance.

Play Up Considerations: We believe it is in the best interest of players to play in their assigned age division, when available. Teams will be formed based on the matrix provided above and will be regrouped with EXTRA players, chosen through a regional tryout, from their school year, instead of birth year.

• Grandfather clause: Younger 2013 EXTRA players (Aug-Dec 2013) may play up in u14 with RC approval. (Based on tryouts/not guaranteed). Viability of the u13 team should be considered before RC offering play ups into the u14 division.
• A player may play up one division, ONLY if there is not a team offered in their current division in their region and only if the region offers one-year divisions. (Written RC approval needed prior to player being rostered)
• Under no circumstances may a player play up into a u9 division.

There will be no other Play Up Exceptions for the Fall 2026 EXTRA Season.  All rosters will be reviewed prior to the start of the Fall Season in order to assure compliance and eligibilty of the team.

Please reach out to your local region for tryout information.

Coaching Area

Each team is permitted up to two (2) certified and approved coaches (Head Coach and Assistant Coach). Both coaches must remain within the designated Coaches' Area throughout the match, regardless of whether the area is marked on the field.

The Coaches' Area is defined as a space that is 1 to 1½ yards behind the touchline and extends 10 yards on either side of the halfway line.

Note: When the Coaches' Area is not marked on the field, coaches should use the center circle as a reference point for positioning.

Pet Policy

Please be aware that pets are NOT allowed at School fields - AT ANY TIME. The presence of pets at any school field, will lead to the revoking of our permits.

While some cities do allow leashed pets at city parks, they are NEVER allowed at the field during a practice or game.

For the safety of ALL our players and volunteers - please leave your pets at home.

AYSO is obligated to observe and respect existing regulations and laws regarding the presence of service animals at our fields. Service animals are defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as only dogs or miniature horses that have been trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. Other animals, whether wild or domestic, do not qualify as service animals.

COACH ID CARD

All approved Coaches (Head Coach and Assistant Coach) will be issued, a current season, Regional Coach ID card. Coach ID cards along with a completed, pre-printed team lineup card, must be presented to the Referee - prior to the start of each match. Coaches/Assistant Coaches must wear their Coach ID cards, making them easily visible on their upper body, during all matches.

Coaches should contact their Regional Coordinator regarding Coach ID Card issues.
